Sheila McCarthy teaches Legal Practice and Procedures and Employment Law at the Cork College of Commerce Night College and has been lecturing on the Accounting Technicians’ Law Module since 2017. Sheila has a particular interest in adult learners and has a Professional Diploma in Education in Further Education which informs her teaching practice. Sheila is passionate about her student’s learning and teaching law. Sheila has an Honours BS Degree in Criminal Justice, a Certificate in Legal Studies, and a Diploma in Youth and Community Work. In addition, Sheila has extensive practical legal work experience having worked as a paralegal in firms in London, New York and Cork. Sheila has gained a wealth of legal knowledge through her legal work in the fields of family law, conveyancing, commercial negligence, and legal redress schemes for Industrial School Cases. Sheila has also worked at the Irish Immigration Centre in New York on matters related to immigration law having developed this interest as a research assistant for her law professor on a published book titled The Cherokee Cases, The Confrontation of Law and Politics. Sheila also teaches Criminology in our West Cork Campus and has previously worked with young offenders in a community based educational programme and as a Youth Advocate.
