In this course, you will receive an in-depth, Trauma-Informed introduction to the field of Play Therapy and its application as a therapeutic intervention/support for
children and adolescents.
Contents
● Learn about the importance of Play and how children naturally use it to
express/process their thoughts/feelings/perceptions and work through
unconscious internal conflicts.
● Understand the theoretical foundations of Play Therapy, including the
history, key theorists, and different modalities.
● Look at the principles underlying Play Therapy and the appropriate use of a
wide range of Play Therapy techniques and interventions, including art,
sand tray, music, drama, and more.
● Exploration of the appropriateness and the benefits of Play Therapy as an
intervention and healing support for Childhood Trauma.
● Exploration of Child Protection, boundaries, ethical considerations and
guidelines when using Play Therapy techniques and interventions.
● An in-depth look at the Play Therapy environment and the required
resources.
● Exploration of Childhood Trauma – impact, signs, symptoms and
manifestations
● Understanding the importance of the therapeutic relationship and what
makes an effective Play Therapist
● Play Therapy in Ireland – the pathways to becoming a Play Therapist and
career opportunities
